The legal stuff, in plain English

Privacy policy.

Last updated: May 2026
TL;DR
We collect almost nothing. No account. No email (unless you sign up for the newsletter, which doesn't exist yet). We use Google Analytics if you let us, store your saved dupes locally on your browser, and cache search results to keep the site fast and free. That's about it.

01Who we are

DUPED. is a free, ad-supported affiliate site that helps you find cheaper alternatives ("dupes") to viral and luxury products. We earn commissions when you buy through links on this site (see Section 7).

For privacy questions, you can reach us through the site once a contact form exists. Currently, the site is a small independent project — not a registered business.

02What we collect

Information you give us

None. You don't make an account, you don't give us an email (yet), you don't tell us your name. Everything works anonymously.

Information collected automatically

When you use DUPED., the following happens automatically — some of it under your control:

None of the above can identify you personally. We don't see your name, email, or location more specific than your city. We don't track you across other websites.

03Cookies & similar tech

DUPED. uses two things in your browser:

localStorage (always on, no opt-out)

This is not a cookie. It's a way for the site to remember things only on your device. We use it for:

This data never leaves your browser. Clear your browser data and it's gone forever.

Analytics cookies (opt-in only)

If you click "Accept" on the cookie banner, we load Google Analytics. GA drops a few cookies (_ga, _gid) used to count unique visits and pages. If you click "Decline" or never respond, GA does not load and no cookies are set.

You can change your mind anytime by clicking Cookie Settings in the footer, or here:

04Third parties we use

DUPED. is built on top of several services. Here's everyone who touches your data, and what they see:

Google Analytics 4

Sees: page views, approximate location, device info — only if you accept cookies. Google's Privacy Policy →

Firebase (by Google)

Hosts the site and stores anonymous search-result caches. Sees: your search queries (not linked to you), and standard server logs (IP address, briefly, for abuse prevention). Firebase Privacy →

Groq (AI provider)

When you search a product, your query is sent to Groq's API to generate dupe suggestions. They see the query text only. Groq's Privacy →

AmazonScraperAPI

When we look up Amazon products, requests go through this provider. They see the search terms generated by the AI — not your personal info. Their privacy practices: see their site for details.

Amazon Associates

When you click a "Shop" button and go to Amazon, Amazon may drop their own cookies (standard for affiliate tracking). This is governed by Amazon's Privacy Notice, not ours.

05What we don't do

06Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA (California), or similar laws. Since we collect almost no personal data, most of these are easy to exercise:

07Affiliate disclosure

DUPED. is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program. We earn a small commission when you buy through links on this site, at no additional cost to you. This is how we keep the site free for you.

We only recommend products we genuinely think work. The "dupes" we suggest are independent products sold by third parties — they are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or made by the original brand. We make no claims of authenticity or guaranteed equivalent performance. Brand names are used solely for reference and remain the property of their respective trademark holders.

08Children's privacy

DUPED. is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you think a child has used the site, contact us and we'll remove anything we can.

09Data security

Your personal data stays on your device. The anonymous search-cache data we do store is held in Firebase Firestore, which uses industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. We can't claim "perfect security" — nobody honestly can — but since we collect so little, there's not much to leak.

10Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes (like adding new tracking, or starting to collect emails), we'll show a notice on the site. Continued use after changes means you accept the new policy.

11Contact

This is a small project — there's no support team. If you have a privacy question or want to exercise a data right, the easiest thing is to clear your browser storage for this site, which deletes everything we'd have on you. If you need to reach us specifically, a contact method will be added once an account/newsletter system exists.
